Dr Seuss- Read Across America 2013

Each year I look forward to Dr Seuss' birthday, which is March 2. His  birthday has been adopted as the Read Across America Day & is "the largest reading event in our nation"(link).  Dr Seuss is that he was born as Theodor Seuss Geisel in 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts.  Dr Seuss wrote And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, which came from his hometown & less than a mile from his childhood home on Fairfield Street.  This book was rejected 27 times.  He went to a College in Oxford to get his Doctorate, but he got married to his wife in 1927 & returned to the US without getting his degree.  He wrote Horton Hatches the Egg in 1940 before the US entered World War II.  After the war, Dr Seuss wrote Horton Hears a Who, The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, & Green Eggs & Ham to name a few. Dr Seuss died of throat cancer on September 24, 1991.  Noah got upset when he found out that Dr Seuss is died.

I wrote this last year & wanted to share it again since it is a fond memory of my: When Noah was in Kindergarten, the parents were invited to read to his class.  Noah wanted me to do it so I signed up.  I will never forget that day.  I read "Where is Home, Little Pip?"  In the kids' old school, they would celebrate the entire week with different thing.  Each day they wore something different.  Not sure what the kids' new school will do.  I will update later today at the bottom of the post.

The kids' school is having a special week where they wear something each day.  On Friday, parents who help on the PTO & I am one of them is helping to make cupcakes, which is going to be white with white icing.
