I started painting Ashleigh's room today. (A small look at the color Ashleigh chose is on our Facebook Page we have for our blog). It looks great. I have a wall to do. I have not touched it since I have items in front of it. I will do that tomorrow plus the chalkboard. Rearrange some furniture. Then, add in her new bed. I am washing her new comforter. It will be dried tomorrow morning. I don't want to put her room back together until I am done with painting.
Tomorrow we are going to paint a chalkboard behind Ashleigh's door, too. Not sure how to do it. Ash wants it to be creative like our dining room's chalkboard.
I hope we have the time to work on Noah's chalkboard, too. His won't take that long, but it will need 2-3 coats since I want to be sure I get every spot of the area I am doing. I am making his chalkboard paint like I am for Ash's one color (the color of her room) I need for her chalkboard.
Here is the recipe for Chalkboard paint:
1 Cup of latex house paint or acrylic craft paint
2 Tbsp. of non-sanded tile grout
Mix paint and grout together making sure all lumps are out. The using a roller* or brush paint on wall or object where you want a chalkboard. Paint 2 coats for best coverage. After it’s dry use a fine sandpaper and lightly sand to make smooth.
*A roller makes the paint go on smoother.
*To condition, rub the side of chalk over the entire surface. Wipe away residue with a barely damp sponge.
This is a new room for a teen! I hope Ash loves it.
