I am a mother of a special needs child. I will stand up for what I believe in especially when it comes to my children. I have a new goal now- to appear in front of Congress to discuss my feelings why I think all special needs children especially my daughter, Ashleigh, deserves an education just like everyone else. Why does my son, who is in general education deserves an education, but my daughter does not according to this Alaska Politician, Mark Ewing? I believe every child deserves an education.
Here is a quote from the article:
I would appear in front of Congress, I would bring a wheelchair with me for this Alaska Politician to get in it. Let's see how easy it is for him not to use his legs & to get around. How does he know how it is to move a wheelchair around? Does he do that daily? I went to school with a girl that was in a wheelchair. I got news for you Mr. Ewing. She got around very well & she was very smart. Just because a child is in a wheelchair does not mean that child is not going no where. Mr Ewing is rude. Do you have any manners at all? What happens if Mr Ewing's child or grandchild become disable? Then, what? Does he change his mind?
“I got to be honest with you, I am not in favor of the No Child Left Behind Act. We are spending millions and millions of dollars educating children that have a hard time making their wheelchair move and, I’m sorry, but you’ve got to say, ‘no’ somewhere. We need to educate our children, but there are certain individuals that are just not going to benefit from an education,” Ewing said.
I am sick of these Politician thinking they can take this away from my child. I am also sick & tired of reading of these Politicians thinking I had an abortion that made my daughter like this. I never did that. Every child no matter what deserves an education. My daughter is smart & she wants to learn.
Ashleigh has a neurological disease. These politicians needs to think before they speak. I have never done anything to harm my daughter. I have done everything I can to help her. What I need is a cure. This is not the first politician & won't be the last trying to take education away from special needs children, but us parents need to stuck together to fight.
I hope you will join me in sharing this link.
Thanks
Melissa
