Ash & PPD-NOS

This post I have wanted to do for months.  In March, Ashleigh was diagnosed with several different disorders, but the doctor that did the tests & told me what she has did not tell me much.
Ashleigh was diagnosed with 4 new diagnoses, but this post is only going to be about Pervasive Developmental Disorder.

*Pervasive Developmental Disorder- Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS) (a type of Autism)
Symptoms of PPD-NOS:

  • Difficulty with verbal communication, including problems using and understanding language
  • Difficulty with non-verbal communication, such as gestures and facial expressions
  • Difficulty with social interaction, including relating to people and to his or her surroundings
  • Unusual ways of playing with toys and other objects
  • Difficulty adjusting to changes in routine or familiar surroundings
  • Repetitive body movements or patterns of behavior, such as hand flapping, spinning, and head banging
  • Changing response to sound; the child may be very sensitive to some noises and seem to not hear others.
  • Temper tantrums
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Aggressive behavior
  • Fearfulness or anxiety

My friend and I took our kids to the zoo this Sunday, July 7.  Ashleigh was having some problems with crowds, and loud noises.  We were in the Aquarium when these things happened.  I was next to Ashleigh calming her down.  When we were able to get to a spot where there was no one, we got there and she was able to calm herself down.  Ashleigh did great.

Ashleigh was diagnosed with others, but at this time this is the only one I am going to talk about.  Plus it is hard to type with both Zeus and Bolt on the bed with me.  They are playing.  To me, it is ignoring, but they are getting along.  I think Zeus wants to get away from Bolt.

Have a good night!
Melissa
