Celiac Awareness Day

Celiac Awareness Day is September 13.  It is September 13 because of the doctor, who discovered Celiac Disease. That doctor was Samual Gee in 1888 and he recognized that Celiac Disease was related to diet.

I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in June. I asked to be tested because of my youngest & it turns out I have it. Now I need to get my youngest re-tested since he has symptoms. I have been researching a lot. I have read one book & I am on my second book. Take a look at my Goodreads Read, Currently Reading, & To-Read List.

The no pasta thing hit me hard, too. I love pasta, but I am ok with it knowing that I won't get sick now. GF foods is not going so be bad.

I am doing okay.  Better than okay.  In June, it was hard.  Each month that went by it got easier and easier.  I am still having trouble reading labels, but I am getting better at it.  It is like I am a detective.  Reading every label, but I have to.  The kids and I have found a gluten-free brownie mix we like plus a gluten-free chocolate cake, too!  I need to order the chocolate chip cookie mix, bread mix, plus more from Sam's Club online.  Bread for me is so expensive.  I have found bread I love now.  The other bread I was eating was like cardboard, but toasting it was good.

Both Ashleigh & Ethan tested negative, but I want them to see a GI doctor to be sure.  Ethan has the symptoms.  I think he has non-celiac gluten intolerance, which is "described those individuals who cannot gluten and experience symptoms similar to those with celiac disease, but yet who lack the same antibodies and intestinal damage as seen in celiac disease."  Maybe Ashleigh has this, too.  Noah has the rash (dermatitis herpetiformis) and I think he may have Celiac Disease, but we are going to wait to get him tested until we get him to the GI doctor.  Dermatitis Herpetiformis is a awful rash.  So itchy.  I have it.  Noah is itchy at times.

If you think your symptoms could be Celiac Disease, please talk with your doctor.  This is from Gluten Dad.  Link below.  Check out his blog.

I was tested because of Ethan's symptoms and it turned out that I have Celiac Disease.  I was so sick at times.  I was thinking it was due to sugar, but it turned out it was due to gluten.

Happy Celiac Awareness Day!!
Melissa
