Organization Challenge

I have been working on a Home Organization Challenge from ABFOL.  It is 14 weeks.  It is a very good challenge.  There are also printouts for this challenge, too.  I do have the book called The Complete Book of Home Organization.  The worst spot in my home was the mail, but I fixed that.  I have worked on our problem areas first like our mail.

The first week (1/2) was the laundry room.  I skipped it because of us working in the dining room.  It did not make any sense to work on the laundry room, which is in the basement when everything is being taken down there from the dining room.  I plan to go through everything and donate anything we haven’t used in awhile to our local Goodwill store. I will be working on cleaning the basement and laundry this weekend.  All goodwill items will go this weekend, too.

Week 2 (1/9) was the office. It is in our bedroom in a corner.  I have my desk with 4 corkboards and a 6 cubicle bookcase.  I clean my desk weekly. It gets dusty. I didn’t have anything major to do to my desk.  I reorganized the 6 cube bookcase I have items on it.  This is done.

Week 3 (1/16) was the kitchen, which I am skipping because we are redoing it.  Once I pick out the paint colors for the cabinets & walls!!  We will be painting everything in the spring

Week 4 (1/23) was the pantry.  Our pantry cabinet is being replaced with the gray cabinet that we have in our dining room. We need to add two shelves to it and then I can add everything over to the gray cabinet.  The old one I may paint and resell. I’m definitely be selling it. This is done for now.

Week 5 (1/30) is the master closet, which I am skipping because I need help.  Our closet is a mess.  We need to go through everything and get rid of a lot. We want to add a small apartment size refrigerator in our closet because of our daughter taking items from our refrigerator.  She takes more than she needs.  Our closet is a dumping zone lately.

Week 6 (2/6) is the master bedroom.  I have cleaned our bedroom awhile ago & got rid of things.

Week 7 (2/13) is the bathroom.  I have already cleaned under the sink and reorganized it. We plan to paint the walls and ceiling.  The floor will be replaced, too

Week 8 (2/20) is the living room.  I had help moving the sectional over a little.  I also had help to move the tv & it’s stand over a little bit to square it with the sectional   I dusted everything and got rid of anything that we don’t want anymore.  This is done

Week 9 (2/27) is the dining room.  We painted it and put the new floor down.  I still need to find two bar stools for the bar.  I’m looking for a sewing table that expands for my sewing machine to go in the dining room, too.

Week 10 (March 6) is the Linen Closet. It’s in our bathroom and pretty organized.  I plan to make sure it’s clean and organized.

Week 11 (March 13) is the Kids’ Closets.  I do not go and clean their rooms anymore.  My children are old enough to make sure their rooms are clean and this includes their closets.  We are teaching our kids to keep their rooms clean on their own.  They know if they need help, we will help them.

Week 12 (March 30) is the Playroom, Toys, Hobbies.  We don’t have a playroom or a room with toys, but we do have an art studio room so I will reorganize my art studio room.  It’s in the basement and needs done.

Week 13 (March 27) is the Launch Pad.  Our entrance way is small and could use some cleaning and reorganizing to it.

Week 14 (April 3) is The Garage, which we don’t have. I think this will be our back room in our basement.  It’s where all of the tools are kept. It needs done badly.  There’s trash that needs taken out. Reorganizing the space.  Get rid of what we don’t need.

Are you working on organizing your home?

Melissa
