What are your Family Traditions?

What Family Traditions do you have?  I saw this on that site & I love these ideas.  I know for holidays we all have Family Traditions, but what about every day?  I did not think of these every day things as Family Traditions, but you know what they are.

1. Have a family date night once a month.
We do this once-four times a month.  The kids & I have a movie night every Friday night.  Of course, movie night includes popcorn.

I love this idea even more.  A Family Date Night.  Love it.  We have been doing this.  Last month we took the kids to the zoo, & another day to the Science Center.  When we have Ash at PT, we go to the zoo, aviary, Science Center, Museum of Natural History, etc, since it is half way to those places from home.  We thought it would save us on gas plus we have 2 days a month planned like this.  Win win!!  Next Monday,  we are planning another trip somewhere.  Not sure where yet.

2. Enjoy a weekly game night.
We are starting this next week.  It will be on our chalkboard.  If you have a Wii, Xbox 360, etc, take advantage of the family game night.  If you want to do board games, then add that in.

I love Family Game Night 1, 2, & 3 for the Wii.
1 has Connect Four Power Chips, Boggle Portal Cubes, Reverse Yahtzee, and Battleship Barrage.
2 has Operation, Jenga, Bop-It, Connect 4x4.
3 has The Game of Life, Clue, Twister, Mouse Trap, Yahtzee Hands Down.

The kids love Mario Kart.  I do, too!  Who does not love Mario?  I am not be the best driver using a controller, but my kids don't care.  They just want me to play the game with them.  That is what matters!

3. Exercise together.
We do this when we are out at the zoo, aviary, etc.  Ash can only do so much.  Same with me.  I wish we could do more.   Walking is what I was told for us to do.  The Science Center is huge.  We did a lot of walking that day.

4. Grow a family garden.
We normally have this, but the last 2 summers I have not been up to doing the planting.  We start in March by planting the seeds in containers.  I use old water gallon jugs, &  Juicy juice bottles.  I take a knife & carefully cut the top of them off.  I put the soil into them.  Then, the kids add the seeds.  We normally have pumpkin plants.  Next year we will do this.

This was taken back in 2008.  I had a cute picture of Noah tending to the plants, but I can not find it anywhere on my desktop.  This is not how we have it.  Inside the wheelbarrow, I have tomatoes, & lettuce.

5. Create a family photo album.
Who has gone all digital? We have.  We have been digital since Noah was born.  That was 2004.  I have 2 photo albums for Ash.  None for the boys.  I will be getting them each an external hard drive when they are older to copy all my pictures for them, but I think I need to create an album for the boys.  One where they are view it with me or Shawn.  Take the favorite pictures over the years.  Anybody else have no photo album for some kids?

6. Take a trip to the grocery store.
We do this once or twice a month.  We have to take the kids with us.  I cannot do it alone most days because of my back.  It depends what we need.  If we need anything heavy, then I can not do it on my own.

7. Go on a yearly camping trip.
Sounds like fun!  Ash & I can not sleep on the hard ground.  We would have to have an air mattress.  I may plan this for next year.

8. Read a book every night.
We normally do this every night.  We got used to it with the kids's school.  It is called R.O.C.K. reading.  They have a R.O.C.K. reader to write everything done.  R.O.C.K. stands for Reading Often Creates Knowledge.  This program is in our school district.  Not sure how this is done in Noah's new school or Ash's new school.  We need to get back to reading every night.  Since school left out, we have not been doing this.  Noah's has a Summer R.O.C.K. reader to do.

Barnes & Noble is offering a free book if your child reads I think 8.  If you have a library in your area, use them, too.  I am in PA.  If you have a Access PA sticker on your local libary card, you  can get another library card for FREE.  I have done this twice in order to sign out e-books.  Our library does not offer them, but bigger libraries do at times.  One library I went into it & filled out the paper to get a library card, but with Philly Free Library, I did it online.  The library in Philly's site has tons of e-books & especially kids.  I was looking for somewhere that they had kids e-books.  Noah loves this.  He can check out books, too.  We also rent movies from our local library.  It is a lot cheaper than renting them from a rental place.

9. Have a New Year’s picnic.
Love this idea!  I will have to remember it for this New Year's.

10. Create gifts together.
The kids & I do this a lot together.  I need to plan more days this summer to do this, too.

Cardboard Construction- Love this idea!  We can get boxes from the grocery store.  The kids would love this especially the boat/ship.                                                                                                                                                  Butterflies-  We are going to make these, but with Coffee Filters.  If we take a medicine dropper with some dye water, it will move through some of the filter.
I want to make these Days of the Week Clothes Tags.  It would help me to be organized when school is back in session.
Twirling Paper Ladybugs- these would be cute to make.
Little Clay Penguin-  I brought clay a while back for Noah.  I need to do this with him.  I think it would be so cute for his dresser as long as Ethan leaves it alone.  With clay, this would be cute, too.
Ladybug Rocks- This would be cute in our garden.  Well, next year.  I need to go get some rocks.
Salt Dough 3-D objects- like Ladybugs, pumpkins, snowman, penguins.

I have made the pumpkins before.  These are from 2007.  I am thinking that this would be a great craft for Noah's class Halloween party.  I plan to volunteer at his new school like I did at his old school.  The kids loved painting these.

Until next time,
