Bolt

Photobucket
I have posted this photo before, but I need some help. I took Bolt to the vet's today. I trust my vet completely. Bolt is a husky. He was born on Christmas Day, 2011. His testicles have not dropped. This is all new to me. Our other husky was neutered with no issues.  This surgery is (at this moment) estimated at $1252. We can not afford that, but I want to have him neutered. I am a big advocate in neutering/spaying my pets. Give me some advice. Will they drop? He is being checked again in July.

I can call the breeder's vet to see what she says & what she would charge, but I think this breeder should pay some of this charge. I need some advice. This is my son's puppy. Getting a new puppy at this time (we signed a contract) is not an option since my son & Bolt have bonded. I will not do this to Bolt. He is a part of our family. Our older husky, Zeus, has separation anxiety & I will not allow another husky to go through what Zeus goes through.

I am receiving some help through a Facebook group I joined a while ago for pets.    I feel a lot better posting in this group.  Noah loves his puppy.  I want them to have the same kind of relationship I had with the puppy I had when I was in high school.  It was great to come home from school to my best friend.  The first thing I did was take my dog for a long walk in the woods.  We lived on 40 acres.  We had a bond.

What to do? Anyone? Help?

  1. It is possible they could still drop since he hasn't reached 6 months yet. I doubt the breeder will pay, since its not really a problem caused by bad breeding. Maybe shop around and see if another vet office could do it for less? We never charged so much for a cryptorchid surgery where I worked. They do need to go in through the abdomen to find the testicle, but it is still easier than a spay on a female.

  2. In my area, there is a spay/neutering program. I called the vet that accepts this. I know what the price is with them. It is between $420-450, but when I take him down there for the pre-surgery appointment ($39 for this, not bad at all) then I would get the price for surgery. I found a lady to help me with her vet. Her price through that vet is around $350, but through that program certain things are included like anesthesia, surgical procedure, waste disposal, day of surgery post-operative care and pain-relief, hospitalization as required, and stitch removal if necessary.

I am thinking the program is the better option to go through because if this is a long surgery the anesthesia cost will go up. What do you think?

    1. Sounds much more reasonable! That other price is just insane. Most places charge a certain price for the first hour of anesthesia and then extra for each additional 30 min. It honestly should not take longer than 1 hour (prob 30-45 min). If it were me, I'd go with the cheaper program!
