I am looking for some Christmas crafts I can do with the kids.
I am thinking of making 2 of these since we have 2 bulbs ready for the trash. I got this from Pinterest.
For Halloween, we make a 3-D pumpkins. For Christmas, I want to take the recipe for clay dough and make Santa Handprints, 3-D snowman, or anything else I can think of. We also have made ornaments out of this recipe. I think we may add a few more ornaments to our tree. I want to get the huskies' paw prints with this clay ornament recipe. Then, add their names to it plus the year.
Here is the recipe for the CLAY ORNAMENTS:
4 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. salt
1 1/2 c. cold water
Christmas cookie cutters
Shellac
Ribbons for hangers
Mix flour and salt together.
Slowly add water while stirring with a fork until soft dough forms.
Turn out on lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, adding a small amount of water or flour, if needed.
Roll dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness.
Cut with cookie cutters.
Place ornaments 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.
Punch "hanging holes" with a drinking straw.
Bake in a preheated 300 degree oven for 30 to 45 minutes.
Baking time will vary with size of ornaments.
When completely cool, you may paint ornaments with Tempra paints or leave natural.
Coat with shellac.
Note: Dough will keep indefinitely if stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
***I have used this recipe for 3D items like pumpkins. I still have them, too. I think we made them about 3 years old. We painted them. The stem I rolled & pushed down to make it more stem like. I used a knife to get the pumpkin to look like a pumpkin! lol.
Noah for school one year had to make a gingerbread man, but it had to have a disguise so no one could eat him. Noah loved this homework assignment. What did Noah disguise his gingerbread man? A penguin of course!
I normally make the kids a coloring page packet. I put in activities that the older 2 kids like. Like dot to dot, crossword puzzles, etc.
This is a cute idea. I would put a photo here, but can not get it to post. It is a snowman garland. I think making these snowman into ornaments is what we will do.
Having the word NOEL on our mantle sounds great! Or I could do JOY. I have brought these letters at Michael's. Then, you decorate them or paint them. I think I would paint then add glitter.
What are your Christmas crafts?
