Disease Awareness #5- Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity

Here is my Disease Awareness #5.  I wanted to highlight Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity because I think Ethan could have this.  Ethan will not eat certain foods that has Gluten in it and it is because they make his stomach hurt.   He was tested for Celiac, but it was negative.  I want to take him off of Gluten for 2 weeks to see how he feels, but I need to wait until after the Holidays.

Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity
 (NCGS) is hard to tell if someone has this, but the blood test and biopsy will be negative.  The only way to find out if one has NCGS is to go gluten free then re-introduce gluten into your diet to see how you feel in both time periods.

There is no cure for NCGS and the only treatment is to follow a Gluten Free Diet.  Gluten is in a lot of items including some make up, shampoos, icing, and much more.  I read my ingredient label.  I can not have anything with Maltodextrin and Citric Acid.  I break out in the awful itching rash called
Dermatitis Herpetiformis (DH), which is a "chronic blistering skin condition, characterized by blisters filled with a watery fluid.
{Information from HERE.}

Not everyone with Celiac or NCGS breaks out in a rash from having something with Maltodextrin or Citric Acid.  I am just lucky I guess!!  It says on the link for Maltodextrin that is derived from any starch.  In the US, this starch is usually corn.  In Europe, it is wheat.  I do not like the word USUALLY.  How do I know it is not wheat and it is corn?  Label it please.  If you have a reaction to Maltodextrin or Citric Acid, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks for reading,
Melissa

If you think you have symptoms of NCGS, remember I am not a doctor.  Please see your doctor.
