Day 15: Chronic Pain

Are you asking how chronic pain can be blessing?  Let's take a step back for a moment for those who are new here.  I injured my back in April, 2007.  I was working 50+ hours a week.  My pcp thought it was a kidney infection at first because of the pain and my history with kidney infections.  It would not leave me.  Well, it turns out I messed up a disc after some tests, which I can not remember right now.  I ended up on pain meds, and still in pain.  I did PT, too.  Nothing was working.  In November, the decision of surgery was made for December.  Like I said in my one post for the series, it was the hardest thing to go through and it took months to recover.

If I did not get hurt, I would be working all of those hours for years.  We found out that we were going to have Ethan on 06-04-08 (Ashleigh's 8th birthday).  I think we would not have him if my injury did not happen.  I was working too much, taking care of what I could at home, but of course, I was tired.

If I did not get hurt, I would had missed so much---Christmas concerts, holiday parties at their schools, Days of First (School, etc), and so many more.

I always wonder why I hurt my back.  Maybe it is to know what it is like to live with pain since our daughter lives every day in pain.  Maybe I was needed at home more than working.  My life changed that day in April.

I feel blessed that I was able to be there for our kids in the last 7 years.  Thinking of all I could have missed is a lot.  I believe Ethan was sent to us when we needed good great news.

Have you ever felt like this before?
Melissa
